Beach Volleyball returned to Copacabana, an iconic scenery where the sport became popular in Brazil. In the Olympic program since 1996, beach volleyball is now one of the most important events in the Games. It was the largest temporary structure ever built in Copacabana. It was over 20 m high and could host over 12 thousand people.
As one of the most important venues in the Olympic Games and located in one of the most iconic locations in Rio de Janeiro, this arena had a huge visual impact. We delivered a full frontal wrap with a Look figurative panel to integrate it with the landscape and Olympic environment. This piece covers the temporary grandstand structure facing Avenue Atlântica. It also had a significant impact from afar, as it appeared well on TV broadcasts. There were also façade banners to decorate the spectator's entries.
The colour strategy for this venue's field of play was using orange because it combines with the intensity and energy of the sun and beach volleyball—that colour mixed with the green in the grandstands, composing the Look for this competition venue.
The orange colour was applied to the field of play surround, on the carpet and the A-frames with the printed graphics and branding sequence. That tone was also predominant in first-level grandstand fascias and equipment such as ball baskets, athlete's bench, coolers and athlete's entry video board.
The green added and made complete this palette with its presence in sports equipment such as net poles, judge's chairs, and grandstands. Many colours were also caught on camera in the arena's higher levels, with graphics applied to show the sport's intensity through the visual identity.
